Srinagar: A massive snow avalanche at Zojila Pass on Friday trapped several passenger vehicles near Zero Point, temporarily blocking the crucial Srinagar–Leh highway that connects the Kashmir Valley with Ladakh, according to reports.

The avalanche struck in the afternoon, with initial reports indicating that three to four vehicles were caught under snow and debris.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far, providing relief to both officials and commuters travelling along the high-altitude route.

Following the incident, the Zojila Pass road was closed to traffic, and rescue and snow clearance operations were immediately launched to remove debris and restore vehicular movement on the strategic highway.

The Zojila avalanche incident highlights the continued risks of snow slides and extreme weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly along key mountain passes during late winter and early spring. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safe reopening of the route.
