Himachal Pradesh floods: Assam CM Sarma extends support with Rs 5 crore donation

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep condolences over the devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh and announced a contribution of Rs 5 crore from the people of Assam to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister's Relief Fund. This contribution aims to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-affected state.

In a post on X, Sarma stated, "The devastating floods in Himachal Pradesh have caused immense loss of lives and property. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the affected. On behalf of the people of Assam, we are contributing Rs 5 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund of Himachal Pradesh to support relief and rehabilitation efforts."

Himachal Pradesh continues to face severe disruptions due to relentless monsoon rains, with hundreds of roads, power transformers, and water supply schemes affected. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) of the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, as of the morning of September 7, a total of 866 roads were blocked across the state, including three National Highways: NH-03, NH-05, and NH-305.

The worst-affected district is Kullu, with 225 roads blocked, followed by Mandi (191 roads) and Shimla (154 roads). Other districts like Chamba, Sirmaur, Kangra, Una, Solan, Bilaspur, Lahaul & Spiti, Kinnaur, and Hamirpur have also reported road blockages.

Power supply has been severely impacted, with 1,572 distribution transformers out of order. Kullu district experienced the most significant disruption with 873 transformers affected, followed by Mandi with 259 and Lahaul & Spiti with 142.

The cumulative death toll since the start of the monsoon season has reached 366, including 203 fatalities due to rain-related incidents and 163 from road accidents.
