Agra: A tragic incident occurred in Agra, where a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) employee, Manav Sharma (25), was found dead at his home. Married for just a year, Sharma allegedly ended his life due to ongoing harassment from his wife. His body was discovered hanging in his residence, and the authorities were soon informed.

Before taking the extreme step, Sharma recorded a nearly seven-minute video on his phone, which was later found by his family. In the footage, he appeared deeply distressed, shedding tears as he pleaded for society to acknowledge the struggles men face. He repeatedly urged people to "think and talk about men" while apologising to his parents for his irreversible decision.

In the video, he expressed his frustration over the lack of legal protection for men, stating, “The law needs to protect men, otherwise there will be a time when there will be no men. Everyone has the same case. I came to know that my wife was with someone. Please think about men. Someone should talk about men; they are very alone. I’m sorry, mom and dad. As soon as I’m gone, everything will be alright, so please let me go. I would like to request that you please think about the men in your life. I have always been a quitter. I’ve attempted suicide multiple times in the past. But you guys need to take care of yourself. I just want to tell one last thing. Do not touch my parents”.

Wife denies allegations

Sharma’s wife, Nikita, denied the allegations against her, stating that her husband had been struggling with alcohol addiction and had a history of self-harm. She claimed that her past was being unfairly used against her in the situation.

According to Nikita, she had intervened multiple times to prevent Sharma from taking his own life, pulling him back from the brink on at least three occasions. She also mentioned that he had left her at her home in Agra in a happy state before proceeding to end his life.

She urged others to consider her side of the story and also alleged that Sharma had physically assaulted her while under the influence of alcohol. She said that she had informed her in-laws about his behaviour on several occasions and requested that at least one of them stay with them for support. However, she claimed that they only stayed for two days before leaving, dismissing her concerns as a personal matter between husband and wife.

On the day of Sharma’s death, Nikita said she had called his sister to inform her that he was about to take his own life and that she had seen images indicating the same. However, his sister reportedly told her to ignore it, assuring her that she had spoken to him and that he would not take such a step.

Nikita further stated that she had requested her father-in-law to visit Sharma’s residence after he stopped answering her calls. However, his sister allegedly advised her not to inform their father but instead report any concerns directly to her. That night, she again warned the family that Sharma might take his own life, but she claimed that no one took her words seriously.

She also alleged that when Sharma’s body arrived, she was present with the family the entire time. However, after two or three days, she was asked to leave and was later denied entry into their home. According to her, the family blamed her for his death and refused to let her return.
