3 cars, properties worth Rs 2 crores & more: Affidavit reveals details about Vinesh Phogat’s assets

Former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who faced a major setback at the Paris Olympics 2024, is venturing into politics by joining the Congress party. Disqualified from the women’s 50 kg wrestling final in Paris due to being overweight, Phogat subsequently decided to retire from the sport. She has now filed her nomination to contest in the upcoming Haryana elections from the Julana constituency in Jind.
Her recent affidavit reveals significant details about her assets. Phogat owns three cars: a Volvo XC 60 (Rs35 lakh), a Hyundai Creta (Rs 12 lakh), and a Toyota Innova (Rs 17 lakh). Additionally, she is repaying a loan for one of these vehicles. Her immovable properties are valued at Rs 2 crore, and she has Rs 1.95 lakh in hand. Her income for the financial year 2023-24 was reported as Rs 13,85,000.
Meanwhile, her uncle and former wrestling coach, Mahavir Singh Phogat, has shifted focus to his daughter Sangeeta Phogat, who is being groomed for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Mahavir stated, "While Vinesh should have competed in the LA Olympics, we are now preparing Sangeeta to bring a medal for India. Due to the Jantar Mantar protest, Sangeeta missed nationals, and with Babita Phogat’s injury, her return seems unlikely."
Vinesh Phogat and Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia, who is married to Sangeeta, joined the Congress last Friday. (With inputs from Agencies)
