5 Indian soldiers lost their lives in Operation Sindoor, confirms DGMO

New Delhi: Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt General Rajiv Ghai on Sunday confirmed that five Indian soldiers lost their lives during Operation Sindoor, India’s large-scale retaliatory strikes against terrorist infrastructure across the border.

“We lost five soldiers in Operation Sindoor,” Lt Gen Ghai said during a joint press briefing held with senior officers from the Indian Armed Forces. The statement came as part of a detailed update on the precision strikes launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives.

The press briefing, held at 6:30 PM, was also attended by Air Marshal AK Bharti, Vice Admiral AN Pramod, and Major General SS Sharda. The officers shared that the operation targeted several key terrorist hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists, including high-value operatives involved in the Pulwama blast and the IC814 hijacking.

Lt Gen Ghai revealed that several terror camps were found vacated in anticipation of an Indian response. He added that the strikes were carried out after careful surveillance and intelligence analysis to ensure maximum impact on active terror infrastructure.

Air Marshal AK Bharti said that Indian fighter jets used precision air-to-surface missiles and successfully engaged several enemy targets. He confirmed that Pakistani aircraft attempting to cross into Indian airspace were intercepted, and several of them, including “hi-tech” jets, were downed by the Indian Air Force.
