2 killed in North Delhi's 4-storey building collapse, 12 rescued so far

New Delhi: A newly constructed four-storey building collapsed in the Burari area of north Delhi on Monday evening, climing two lives, according to officials. Twelve people have been rescued so far, but there are concerns that more individuals may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
A police officer confirmed the deaths, stating: "Two people have been found dead so far and 12 have been rescued." Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate any survivors, with concerns that more individuals may be trapped beneath the debris.
The Delhi Police received an alert around 7:00 pm regarding the building collapse, which occurred in an area of 200 square yards near the Oscar Public School.
In a statement, the Delhi Police reported, “The PCR call was received at 6:58 pm. The rescue operation is still under process and we feel some people are still trapped. Police, fire, DDMA and NDRF personnel are on the spot. So far, 12 persons have been rescued and taken to the nearest hospital.”
Fire services, rescue teams respond quickly
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Chief Atul Garg confirmed that the rescue efforts had successfully freed four individuals, including three girls and one man. “Our team rescued three girls and a man who were all taken to a nearby hospital,” Garg said.
Nine fire tenders were deployed to the scene to assist with the ongoing rescue efforts. Emergency personnel from the fire department, police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are working together to clear the site and rescue any remaining victims.
To ensure the safety of the public, the police have cordoned off the area and are preventing further accidents from occurring as the rescue operations continue.
Delhi leaders express condolences, offer support
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi shared her condolences on social media platform X, stating, "This incident of building collapse in Burari is extremely sad. I have spoken to the local administration to ensure speedy relief and rescue operations. All possible help will be provided to the affected people."
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his concern, saying, “This incident is very sad. Our MLA from Burari, Sanjeev Jha, has been instructed to immediately go there with party workers and help the administration in relief and rescue work. Also, help the local people in every possible way.”
The rescue operation remains ongoing as authorities continue to work at the site.
