Dehradun: Four police officers, including two sub-inspectors, have been booked in Dehradun for allegedly assaulting a car driver during an alcohol test near the Mussoorie diversion, a police official confirmed on Friday.

The action came after Dehradun’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate III, Sahista Bano, directed police to investigate a complaint filed by the victim, Kunal Chaudhary.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on August 6 when Chaudhary was stopped by officers for a routine alcohol test. He alleged that despite not consuming alcohol, the officers issued him a challan for drunk driving. When he protested, the policemen allegedly kicked and punched him, leaving him with serious injuries.

Following the magistrate’s directive, an FIR was registered at the Rajpur police station against the four accused officers.

Dehradun City Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar said, “We have registered an FIR against the four policemen at the Rajpur police station, and an investigation has been initiated.”

The alleged assault took place near the busy Mussoorie diversion, a checkpoint frequently used for random alcohol tests. Victim Kunal Chaudhary claimed he was subjected to physical assault and falsely accused of driving under the influence.

Chaudhary’s complaint prompted judicial scrutiny, leading Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sahista Bano to order a formal inquiry. Acting on the court’s direction, the Dehradun Police registered a case against the four officers, including two sub-inspectors.

Authorities said disciplinary measures would depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation. The accused officers have not yet been suspended but could face departmental action if the allegations are proven.

The incident has renewed calls for accountability and transparency within local police operations, particularly in cases involving alleged misuse of authority during routine checks.
