Greeshma pleads leniency; accused has a devilish mindset, says prosecution; Sentencing on Jan 20

Thiruvananthapuram: The Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court will announce the sentencing in the Parassala Sharon murder case on January 20. The Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court had found that the first accused, Greeshma, and the third accused, Greeshma's maternal uncle Nirmalakumaran Nair, are guilty. The court heard the prosecution during the final hearing and is set to announce the punishment on Monday.
Greeshma was brought to the court at around 11 AM on Saturday. The Additional Sessions Court Judge A.M. Basheer asked Greeshma if she had anything to say before the announcement of the verdict. In response, Greeshma wrote down her statements. The judge then called the accused into his chamber and personally inquired about her statements.
Greeshma requested the maximum possible leniency in her sentence, considering her age. She mentioned that she is only 24 years old, still has more to learn, and had no criminal background. Greeshma also submitted her educational certificates before the court.
Meanwhile, the prosecution argued that the Sharon murder case was a rare and exceptional one. It requested the court to impose maximum sentence, pointing out that the accused had killed not only a young person but also someone driven by the emotion of love. The prosecution stated that the accused had premeditated the crime, luring Sharon into her house by pretending to be loving. After failing in her first attempt to kill Sharon, she tried again. The murder was carried out with precise planning, the prosecution argued.
The prosecution referred to medical testimony indicating that Sharon had suffered for 11 days. They argued that the murder was not impulsive but was planned in advance. The prosecution further stated that Sharon had dreams, which were destroyed by Greeshma. The prosecution claimed that the accused showed no remorse and did not deserve any mercy, urging the court to impose the death penalty.
On the other hand, the defense lawyer, Sasthamangalam Ajith Kumar, questioned how the death sentence could be imposed on the accused, pointing out that only circumstantial evidence was available in the case.
During the trial, Greeshma showed signs of suicidal tendencies. The defense stated that Greeshma had tried multiple times to escape from the relationship with Sharon, but Sharon was unwilling to end it. The defense also claimed that Sharon had blackmailed Greeshma by showing her private pictures and had done things beyond what a woman could tolerate. The defense mentioned that Sharon had even recorded videos in the bedroom and threatened Greeshma.
