Man arrested for secretly filming women on Bengaluru Metro, sharing on Instagram

Bengaluru: A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly operating an Instagram account that posted photos and videos of women commuters on the city’s Metro network. The man, identified as Diganth, a native of Hassan district in Karnataka, was living in the Thigalarapalya area of the city.
According to police sources, Diganth was the administrator of the now-deleted Instagram account Bangalore Metro Clicks, which had gained over 5,000 followers before it was flagged by users for sharing intrusive images of women in Metro coaches and on platforms without their knowledge or consent.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed on Wednesday after a concerned user reported the account and tagged Bengaluru Police. Authorities acted swiftly, taking down the account and all its content. The arrest was made on Friday, and Diganth is currently being interrogated.
Investigators are probing whether he uploaded the content on other platforms as well, including Telegram, where similar content was allegedly being circulated. Police are also examining the possibility that Diganth may have been part of a larger group or operating the account with external support.
"The women featured in the photos were completely unaware that they were being photographed," a senior police officer said, emphasizing the seriousness of the violation. Officials are also investigating whether Diganth profited from these uploads or shared them for other purposes.
The arrest has sparked fresh conversations around digital privacy, the safety of women in public spaces, and the misuse of social media platforms to perpetuate voyeurism and harassment.
