Kerala ragging horror: Accused's hostel room visuals reveal dumbbell used for abuse

Kottayam, Kerala: More disturbing details have emerged in the brutal ragging case at a government nursing college men's hostel in Kottayam. Furthermore, visuals from the hostel room of the accused students have now surfaced.

According to the police, five third-year General Nursing students had been brutally ragging the first-year students for the past several months. The victims were reportedly stripped naked, injured using dividers, and had cream smeared on their mouths when they screamed in pain. The accused also recorded videos of the abuse on their mobile phones.

A dumbbell, allegedly used to abuse junior students, was found in the hostel room. Five third-year General Nursing students had been subjecting first-year students to brutal ragging for the past three months. According to the police, the victims were stripped naked, injured using dividers, and had cream smeared on their mouths when they screamed in pain. The accused also recorded videos of the abuse on their mobile phones.

The accused have been identified as Samuel (20) and Vivek (21) from Kottayam, Jeeva (19) from Wayanad, Rijil Jith (20), and Rahul Raj (22) from Malappuram. The incidents began shortly after the college reopened in November, when the freshers, six students from Thiruvananthapuram, were targeted for ragging in the college hostel.

According to the FIR, on November 16, the accused forcibly took ₹300 via Google Pay and ₹500 in cash from a first-year student by threatening him.
Later, while the junior students were in their hostel room, the seniors arrived and accused them of "disrespecting seniors." One of the accused then allegedly placed a knife on a student’s neck and threatened him.

On December 13, a first-year student was subjected to severe physical torture by senior students. Around midnight, the accused allegedly entered the victim’s room, tied his hands and legs, poured lotion all over his body, and inflicted multiple injuries using a divider. They then forced another first-year student to record the incident on a mobile phone.

The accused also regularly extorted money from the victim and other juniors. When they refused to pay, they were threatened and physically assaulted. The police stated that the accused summoned juniors to their room, forced them to kneel, and then brutally slapped them.

In another horrific act, the seniors allegedly tied a dumbbell to the victims' private parts as part of their abuse. The extorted money was reportedly used for alcohol consumption, and juniors complied out of fear.
Meanwhile, the police have recovered videos from the accused students’ mobile phones showing the brutal assault on juniors. These videos will be presented as evidence in court.
