Kottayam: A private bus conductor was viciously assaulted by a group of people led by a girl student after he denied her a student ticket for not having uniform, ID card or concession card. The footage of the conductor being beaten up also has surfaced.
Pradeep, who works in a bus on the Malikakadavu-Kottayam route, endured the attack on Thursday evening.

According to the conductor, the girl asked for an ST ticket without any uniform, ID card, concession card or bag. The conductor said then that would not be allowed from the next day onwards, following which the girl brought her relatives and others and assaulted him.

Pradeep was later admitted to Kottayam Medical College with a fractured skull and had three stitches.

The student, on the other hand, accused Pradeep of mental harassment.

“The girl gave me two rupees seeking an ST ticket, but when I asked for an ID card, she said she didn't have any. She was neither wearing a uniform nor did she have a college bag. When I told her that this wouldn't be permissible from the next day onwards, she disembarked. Later, upon the bus's return journey, around 40 people stopped the bus. The girl and four other people got inside the bus and started assaulting me,” said Pradeep. The girl also assaulted him.

Pradeep alleged that his son who was sitting with him was also beaten up.

Pradeep expressed displeasure over the police handling, alleging his statement was not recorded properly, omitting details of assault on his son and missing money from his bag.
