‘He kissed me without consent, drugged himself and raped me’: Doctor details sexual assault by rapper Vedan

Details have emerged in the sexual assault case against rapper Vedan, following a complaint filed by a young doctor. According to the complaint, the assaults occurred multiple times between August 2021 and March 2023 and outline multiple instances of alleged rape, emotional abuse, and financial manipulation.

According to the complaint, the woman first became acquainted with Vedan through social media, having been a fan of his music and online interviews. She began interacting with the rapper via Instagram, initially pointing out factual inaccuracies in some of his interviews. Their online communication escalated when Vedan allegedly expressed interest in meeting her in person.

In August 2021, Vedan travelled to Kozhikode to meet her. The woman alleges that he visited her residence, and while they were seated on the floor talking, he kissed her without her consent. She further states that Vedan remained at her home for three days following this initial incident.

Allegations of repeated sexual assault

The complaint describes five separate incidents of sexual assault that allegedly took place at different locations. First she was sexually assaulted at her residence in Kozhikode, at a friend’s house in Eloor and at her Kochi Residence. On May 30, 2022 after a music event in Kochi, the woman alleges that Vedan approached her while under the influence of drugs and violently raped her. She describes the incident as extremely brutal, stating that she suffered physical pain and trauma as a result.

She claims the assaults continued during their interactions between 2021 and 2023.

She alleges that Vedan’s behaviour worsened after each incident and that she experienced emotional breakdowns and psychological trauma due to his repeated actions.

Financial exploitation claims

Alongside the allegations of sexual abuse, the woman also claims that Vedan financially exploited her over the course of their relationship. She states that Vedan was financially unstable during the period in question and frequently requested money.

Specific financial transactions mentioned in the complaint include: ₹10,000 in December 2021, allegedly to help Vedan release a song. ₹5,000 on December 19, 2021, following another request for funds.

A total of ₹31,000 was given between 2021 and 2023 across multiple occasions. She added that she had also booked train tickets for him multiple times, which cost her around ₹8,356.

The complainant has reportedly submitted bank transaction records, account details, and screenshots of conversations to support these financial claims. She alleges that despite helping him financially and emotionally, she was met with increasing mistreatment and manipulation.

Police action and legal charges

The Kochi City Police have registered a case against Vedan under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (rape) and 376(2)(m) (repeated rape). Kochi Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya confirmed that the investigation is in its preliminary stage. He further stated that statements from witnesses are being collected and that the case will proceed with due legal process.
