Varanasi ropeway fares approved: Reach Godowlia from Cantt in 15 minutes

The much-awaited Varanasi Ropeway Project has moved closer to launch after the Uttar Pradesh government approved its fare structure. The upcoming urban mobility service is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve travel convenience for residents and tourists visiting the temple city.

According to officials, passengers will be able to travel from Varanasi Cantt Railway Station to Godowlia in just 15 to 16 minutes. Ticket prices will range from Rs 10 to Rs 50, depending on the distance travelled. Travellers using the full route between Cantt Station and Godowlia will pay Rs 50, while shorter journeys, including those involving stops such as Vidyapeeth Station, will cost less.

Authorities have also introduced a smart pass system offering a 20% discount, similar to metro services. A premium gondola booking option has also been proposed at Rs 2,000. Cloakroom facilities with free luggage storage for the first two hours will be available.
