Union Budget 2026: Ramnagar hoteliers near Corbett seek tax relief, infrastructure push
In anticipation of the upcoming Union Budget, hoteliers in Ramnagar, the administrative centre of Uttarakhand's Corbett National Park, are holding out hope for much-needed assistance for the faltering hospitality industry.
The main hub for visitors to Corbett is Ramnagar, which is about 15 kilometres away from the entrance to the well-known Bijrani Zone of the tiger reserve. However, hotel owners claim that the sector is currently under a great deal of financial strain, with growing operating expenses endangering their ability to survive at all.

Hoteliers are pleading with the government to reinstate the input tax credit on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) paid for investments in hotel infrastructure in order to alleviate growing costs. They contend that the lack of an input tax credit has greatly raised project costs, deterring new investments and growth.

Long-standing infrastructure issues have also been brought to light by stakeholders from the local tourism ecosystem. These include poor parking facilities and the lack of bypass roads in popular tourist destinations, which they claim cause traffic jams and annoy tourists.

Ramnagar's hospitality industry is hoping that the Union Budget will recognise these issues and implement measures that will not only help the sector weather the current downturn but also allow for sustainable growth in one of the most major tourist destinations in the region.
