Firecracker factory blast in Tamil Nadu: One dead, one critically injured

Virudhunagar: One worker was killed and another critically injured after an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit near Srivilliputhur in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Thursday morning.

The explosion occurred at the Karisma Fireworks unit in Koonampatti, where workers were engaged in routine firecracker production.

According to preliminary information, the blast was reportedly triggered by friction while workers were manufacturing ‘Chakkaram’ (ground spinner) firecrackers.

The explosion completely destroyed two rooms of the factory and damaged three others.

Sakthivel, 55, a resident of Ceylon Colony in Ayyampatti, died at the spot. Another worker, Kaliraj, 50, sustained critical injuries and was rescued before being shifted to Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment.
