Puducherry gets futuristic ‘New-Gen’ Post Office on JIPMER campus

A new-generation (N-Gen) Post Office has been launched at the JIPMER campus in Puducherry, reflecting the Department of Posts’ push to modernise postal services and attract younger users. The tech-enabled facility offers free Wi-Fi, upgraded digital counters, and improved customer amenities aimed at making postal and banking services faster and more convenient.

Services such as Speed Post, parcel delivery, and banking operations are now managed through modernised systems designed to reduce waiting times and improve efficiency. According to Major Manoj, Director of Chennai City Region, Postal Department, customers no longer need to fill out physical forms and can instead access services through QR code-based systems. The post office also features passbook update machines, Wi-Fi access, and coffee vending facilities to create a more comfortable customer experience.

The initiative is part of a broader nationwide effort to digitally transform post offices and make them more user-friendly and technology-driven.
