Jim Corbett 151st birth anniversary: Honouring the hunter who became a wildlife protector

Jim Corbett's birth anniversary, Jim Corbett National Park, wildlife conservation, human-wildlife conflict and responsible tourism were at the centre of tributes across Uttarakhand as forest officials, conservationists and local residents marked the 151st birth anniversary of the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist. Remembered for championing peaceful coexistence between forests, wildlife and people, Jim Corbett's vision laid the foundation for India's first national park, now known as Jim Corbett National Park.

Wildlife enthusiasts said Corbett abandoned hunting in the 1930s and advocated tiger protection, a vision that eventually led to the establishment of the national park in 1936.
