Rare bird spotted with chicks in Corbett, signalling healthy ecosystem
Hidden among the marshy grasslands of Corbett Tiger Reserve, an elusive bird has made a remarkable appearance. The Greater Painted-Snipe, captured on camera with two chicks, is being seen as a major breakthrough for bird conservation in the region.
Wildlife photographer Deep Rajwar said the elusive bird had never before been officially photographed in the Kosi River and Jim Corbett landscape despite being a resident species. He described the discovery as a positive sign that ongoing conservation efforts are creating healthier habitats for rare wildlife.
Corbett Tiger Reserve Director Dr. Saket Badola explained that the Greater Painted-Snipe typically remains hidden in marshy grasslands, making sightings exceptionally uncommon. Officials believe the successful breeding record reflects the reserve's improving ecosystem and highlights the importance of protecting wetlands that support vulnerable bird species and rich biodiversity.
