Actress Shweta Menon, president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), has issued an emotional statement addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the organisation, its executive committee's resignation, and the formation of an ad hoc committee. She said she had remained silent in the hope of protecting the organisation, but claimed her silence had been exploited by vested interests.

In a detailed social media post, Menon denied allegations that she had cheated members or abandoned AMMA, asserting that she would not step down without proving her innocence.

"I have been silent all these days for AMMA. I thought that if I kept quiet, the controversies surrounding AMMA would come to an end. But as my reputation continues to be targeted and tarnished, I will not step down without proving my innocence," she wrote.

Referring to the AMMA Annual General Body meeting held on 21 June 2026, Menon alleged that around 10 to 15 members attended with a pre-planned agenda to force the resignation of the executive committee. According to her, they circulated a pre-printed resolution containing several allegations against the committee.

She maintained that the executive committee had "clear, fact-based and legally sound" responses to every allegation and argued that the resolution never became valid because it failed to secure the required two-thirds majority under AMMA's bylaws.

Menon also questioned the legitimacy of the recently formed ad hoc committee, arguing that no such provision exists in the organisation's constitution.

"Where in the AMMA bylaws is there a system called an ad hoc committee? How did a committee that is not mentioned in the bylaws come into existence?" she asked.

She further claimed that AMMA's bylaws clearly state that if an elected committee resigns, it should continue in office until fresh elections are held and a new committee assumes charge. She noted that the same principle had been followed when the previous committee led by Mohanlal resigned, and questioned why a different standard was now being applied.

According to Menon, the existing executive committee remains the only legitimate governing body until a new committee is elected, and any group claiming to function as an ad hoc committee is acting without legal authority and misleading AMMA members.

Highlighting the organisation's welfare activities, Menon said AMMA had continued to function without disruption despite the controversy. She noted that members had received the annual kaineettam on 1 July, while initiatives such as the Sanjeevani scheme and medical insurance programme were also continuing as scheduled.

Concluding her statement, Menon alleged that certain "vested interests", whom she described as accused individuals, were attempting to hijack the organisation by taking advantage of her silence.

"I have remained silent for the sake of AMMA. But I will not allow anyone to hijack the organisation," she said.
