Superb ensemble of actors

The cast of 'Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba' is a masterclass in acting, with Taapsee, Vikrant, and Aditya reprising their roles with ease as Rani, Rishabh/Rishu, and Inspector Kishore. They are joined by Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Sheirgill, who bring a fresh wave of talent to the film.

Sunny's Abhimanyu is a beautifully nuanced character, a hint of innocence and shades of grey that add depth. Jimmy also delivers a powerful performance as Mrityunjay, despite being in a supporting role.

The casting is flawless, with each actor bringing their A-game to the film. A true testament to the filmmakers' skill in assembling a dream team!

The sequel dives right back into the action, picking up where 'Haseen Dillruba' concluded. Rani and Rishu/Rishabh make a daring escape to Agra, assuming new identities and attempting to lay low. However, their tranquillity is short-lived, as Abhimanyu becomes smitten with Rani, setting off a chain reaction of events.

The situation becomes even more complex with the arrival of Inspector Kishore, who encounters Rani in Agra, and Mrityunjay, who is searching for Neel.

Writer Kanika Dhillon has once again masterfully woven a captivating narrative, filled with unexpected twists and turns. The story remains engaging throughout, never faltering and largely living up to the expectations of the thriller genre.

Where 'Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba' Clicks

The film's technical prowess is equally impressive, with crisp direction and editing that perfectly complement its strong writing and acting. The camera work is exceptional, capturing the characters' emotions with nuanced close-ups and incorporating stunning scenic views that enhance the story. 

A scene between Rani and Abhimanyu showcases the dialogue writer's skill, as Abhimanyu tenderly describes his love and the picturesque view of the 'Gulaabi' Taj Mahal from his home. This moment is a testament to the film's ability to balance emotional depth, making it a compelling watch.

However, it's not without its flaws

Vikrant's Rishu takes centre stage, but his presence feels less than what we had seen in the prequel -- his screen time seems to be shorter in this instalment. The film also misses opportunities to deepen the chemistry between Rishu and Rani further, with more meaningful scenes. Notably, Sunny's Abhimanyu makes a stronger impression on the viewer than Rishu.

The introduction of Lallan and Poonam's characters, though important per the script, has minimal impact, particularly Poonam's underutilised role. Her scenes with Vikrant feel gratuitous and unnecessary.

Moreover, the visual effects department disappoints, especially in the crocodile scenes, which cry out for more realism and convincing visuals.
