OTT releases this week: Toxic, Unabomber, Don’t Be Shy, and more

The final week of September brings a varied lineup of films and series to streaming platforms, ranging from crime thrillers and supernatural dramas to romantic comedies and reality shows. This week’s releases also include highly anticipated titles such as Yash’s ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ and the second season of ‘Rise and Fall’.

Here are the films and series arriving on OTT platforms this week.

#Love

Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi headline ‘#Love’, a new romantic series directed by Balaji Mohan, known for films such as ‘Maari’. The eight-episode show explores contemporary relationships through a mix of romance, humour and emotional conflicts. ‘#Love’ will premiere on Netflix on October 2.

Unabomber

‘Unabomber’ explores the life of Ted Kaczynski, played by Jacob Tremblay, across two timelines, tracing his early years as a Harvard student and the later investigation into the bombing campaign that made him a target of the FBI. The series also revisits the controversial psychological experiments conducted on Kaczynski when he was 16, while Shailene Woodley plays fictional FBI agent Joanne Miller, who leads the investigation in the later timeline. ‘Unabomber’ will be available on Netflix from September 25.

The Final Problem

Set in 1959, ‘The Final Problem’ follows Basil, portrayed by José Coronado, a former actor who became famous for playing Sherlock Holmes. After a mysterious death occurs at an isolated hotel, Basil turns detective once again, scrutinising a group of guests who could have connections to the incident. Based on Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s novel, the miniseries combines a period setting with a murder mystery. ‘The Final Problem’ premieres on Netflix on September 25.

East of Eden

Florence Pugh leads ‘East of Eden’, a screen adaptation of John Steinbeck’s acclaimed novel. The series centres on Cathy Ames and her complicated relationships with Adam Trask, played by Christopher Abbott, and Charles Trask, played by Mike Faist, against the backdrop of the Trask and Hamilton families in California’s Salinas Valley. The story examines family conflict and the ways trauma can echo across generations. ‘East of Eden’ will stream on Netflix from October 1.

Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups

Yash-starrer ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ takes audiences into a crime-ridden world in post-Independence Goa, where a gangster is caught between loyalty, ambition, morality and the possibility of redemption. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the action thriller also features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi. The film is scheduled to make its digital debut on ZEE5 on September 25 and will be available in multiple Indian languages.

Hunkkaar: The Roar

‘Hunkkaar: The Roar’ follows 17-year-old Meenu Rawat, whose accusation against a powerful spiritual leader triggers an investigation that soon expands beyond the courtroom. The thriller explores the intersection of faith, influence, media scrutiny and the pursuit of justice, with Aneet Padda and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Arjun Mathur, Raghubir Yadav and Ram Kapoor are also part of the cast. ‘Hunkkaar: The Roar’ releases on Netflix on September 25.

Don’t Be Shy

Aarushi Bajaj plays Shy in ‘Don’t Be Shy’, a coming-of-age romantic comedy about a college student whose carefully mapped-out plans change after a breakup. As she deals with heartbreak, develops new friendships and navigates the uncertainties of adulthood, Shy begins to discover more about herself and the realities of growing up. ‘Don’t Be Shy’ premieres on Amazon Prime Video on September 25.

Bakaiti (Season 2)

The Kataria family is back with another round of domestic chaos in the second season of ‘Bakaiti’. The new season centres on a dispute surrounding the future of their ancestral property, Kataria Kutir, bringing both families under one roof and setting the stage for fresh conflicts. As Ajay, Alka and Aman return home, Sanjay, played by Rajesh Tailang, struggles to hold the family together amid financial problems, property disagreements and clashing personalities. ‘Bakaiti’ Season 2 arrives on ZEE5 on September 25.

Mango Pachcha

Kannada crime drama ‘Mango Pachcha’ follows Prashanth, also known as Pachcha, played by Sanchith Sanjeev, a Mysuru video rental shop owner whose life changes after discovering his late father’s secret involvement in marijuana smuggling. His growing ambitions draw him deeper into organised crime, putting him on a dangerous path. Written and directed by Viveka, ‘Mango Pachcha’ will stream on JioHotstar from September 25.

Rise and Fall (Season 2)

‘Rise and Fall’ returns for a second season with former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag taking over as host. The reality game show places 15 contestants into two groups, Rulers and Workers, with the participants living in a penthouse and basement respectively. Their positions within the house depend on decisions and developments during the game. Swara Bhasker, Karan Patel, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary and Shehzad Poonawalla are among the confirmed contestants. ‘Rise and Fall Season 2’ premieres on Amazon Prime Video on September 26.

Agadha

Telugu supernatural horror thriller ‘Agadha’ centres on Mahadevi, a woman with spiritual abilities who returns to her hometown after her cousin dies following a visit to a mysterious forbidden cave. When unsettling events begin surrounding the dead woman’s teenage sister, Mahadevi ventures into the cave and encounters an ancient presence. Directed by M.S. Raju, the film draws on folklore and atmospheric horror rather than relying primarily on jump scares. ‘Agadha’ premieres on ZEE5 on September 25.
