Women empowerment from caravan: B Unnikrishnan's veiled attack on WCC

Kochi: FEFKA does not sit inside caravans and carry out women empowerment activities through facebook, said director-screenwriter and FEFKA General Secretary, B Unnikrishnan, the other day. FEFKA has many times been criticized for being anti-feminist. In response to the allegation, Unnikrishnan said, “we are not feminists who stay inside the comfort zone of cyberspace.” The oblique criticism is supposedly directed at WCC, the association of women in Malayalam cinema.
Unnikrishnan was speaking at the film employees’ meeting organized by FEFKA at Kochi on Wednesday, March 27. “Looking at the employees’ meeting from 2009 to the current year, women’s representation has significantly increased. There are women representatives in every domain of FEFKA today. This is basically a union of workers. It includes male and female, the queer, black and white, and everyone,” he said.
