Will there be a sequel to ‘Marco’? Unni Mukundan says no, producers say maybe

Actor Unni Mukundan recently stirred discussion by stating that Marco--a Malayalam film that found pan-Indian acceptance--will not have a sequel. The actor had cited widespread negativity surrounding the project and said he would aim to return with “something bigger and better”. However, the film’s producers, Cubes Entertainments, have now indicated that the Marco franchise has not been completely shelved.
The clarification came in response to a fan’s comment on social media, urging the production house to release a second instalment or pass the rights to another team.
“Cubes Entertainments, release Marco 2. If you can't, buy the rights and have another production team do it. Marco is a good movie. Its second part will be the most anticipated film,” the fan wrote.
Cubes Entertainments replied:
“Thank you for the immense love and support you have given to Marco. The discussions about the Marco series are still ongoing. Cubes Entertainments holds the complete rights to Marco. We firmly believe that Marco’s journey has great potential. We are not ready to transfer or share the rights of this franchise.”
Earlier, Unni Mukundan had addressed a similar query from a fan on Instagram, who asked when Marco 2 would be released. The actor responded that plans to continue the Marco series had been dropped.
“There is a lot of negativity surrounding the project. I will try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thank you for all the love and positivity,” he said.
