Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ to release this month? Producer Venkat Narayana drops major hint

The long-awaited Vijay film ‘Jana Nayagan’ appears to be on track for release within the next two weeks, according to its producer Venkat K Narayana. Speaking on Sunday, the filmmaker confirmed that the certification procedure with the Central Board of Film Certification is in its final stages, fuelling expectations that the project, heavily watched due to the actor’s political transition, will arrive in cinemas this month.
Narayana, who heads KVN Productions, spoke to reporters during the swearing-in ceremony of Tamil Nadu’s new Chief Minister, the actor-turned-politician Vijay. He said the team was “very happy and excited” as the film moved closer to clearance.
Certification in final stage
Narayana revealed that the film’s approval was almost complete. “Final processes are underway, and we are in discussions with them. We are very happy and excited,” he said, noting that the release was expected “in approximately 14 days”.
The film had previously missed its planned January 9 release date due to delays in receiving certification.
The producer, who has worked closely with Vijay on what is widely seen as his final cinematic outing before entering politics full-time, spoke highly of the actor’s character and work ethic.
“I know Vijay sir personally. He is very disciplined and dedicated, and whatever he promises, he fulfils. He walks the talk,” Narayana said.
He hinted that the film’s themes echo the political shift underway in Tamil Nadu, adding, “I think a new leadership, a new era begins... He has turned out to be Jana Nayagan (a man of the people) for the people of Tamil Nadu.”
Recent setbacks and leak controversy
While discussing the project, Narayana acknowledged that the team had faced hurdles, referring to some past issues as “unfortunate”. He stressed, however, that the focus was now firmly on bringing the film to audiences.
The production suffered a major blow recently when the film was leaked online. Authorities arrested a freelance assistant editor along with others linked to the leak, prompting industry concerns over digital piracy.
Political backdrop heightens anticipation
Interest in the film has soared following Vijay’s political breakthrough. His party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as the largest force in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in April. Though short of a majority, it later secured support from the Indian National Congress and other allies to form the government. C Joseph Vijay took oath as Chief Minister at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
