Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon join hands for Hindi version 'Obsession'; here's what we know

Bollywood actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon have joined forces for the Hindi-dubbed version of the horror film 'Obsession', lending their voices to its lead characters. The film, which blends romance with psychological horror, is set to make its OTT debut on JioHotstar on October 30, with both English and Hindi versions available to stream. 

The announcement was accompanied by a promotional video shared by JioHotstar on Instagram on Tuesday. The clip featured Varun and Kriti recreating a memorable car sequence from the horror film in a humorous manner.

The project also marks a first for Kriti, who has never previously dubbed another actor's performance. Both actors have shared their experiences of working on the Hindi adaptation, with Kriti describing the role as an exciting challenge and Varun revealing how the dubbing process changed his perspective on the film.

What is 'Obsession' about?

At the centre of 'Obsession' is Bear, an employee at a music store who secretly harbours romantic feelings for his colleague Nikki.

Hoping to win her affection, Bear turns to a mysterious object known as the 'One Wish Willow', a toy believed to have the power to grant wishes. He uses it to make Nikki fall in love with him, but the consequences are far from what he imagined.

What begins as a wish for romance soon develops into a frightening situation as Nikki's feelings become increasingly intense and obsessive.

The film explores the disturbing consequences of trying to control another person's emotions, with its storyline combining elements of romance, obsession and horror.

Kriti Sanon on her first dubbing experience

For Kriti Sanon, 'Obsession' marks her debut as a voice actor dubbing another performer's role. The actress said she was drawn to the film's unusual storyline and the opportunity to explore a character unlike those she had previously played.

“I absolutely loved the film and the performances in Obsession. It’s such a gripping, quirky & twisted story. I’ve never explored a character this edgy before, which made the experience even more exciting & challenging. This is also the first time I’ve lent my voice to another actor’s performance, and I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting film to make that debut with! I had a lot of fun voicing for it and I can’t wait for the audiences to experience the film in Hindi,” said Kriti as per a release.

The actress also expressed her excitement about introducing the story to Hindi-speaking viewers through her voice performance.

Varun Dhawan, who has also lent his voice to the Hindi version, said the experience allowed him to revisit the film with a closer understanding of its characters and narrative.

According to the actor, working on the dubbing required him to pay attention to aspects of the story that he had not noticed during his initial viewing.

“Working on the Hindi version of Obsession gave me an opportunity to experience the story from a completely different perspective. In fact, I found myself enjoying the film even more because I could look at it so closely. I noticed so many little details that I may have missed on a first watch, and that made the whole experience even more interesting. I’m excited for audiences to experience Obsession in Hindi and discover those details for themselves,” he said.

The actors' collaboration on the Hindi version was highlighted in JioHotstar's promotional video, which showed them putting their own comic spin on the film's well-known car scene.

'Obsession' was released in Indian cinemas on May 29, 2026.

Following its theatrical run, the horror film is scheduled to begin streaming on October 30 through the Peacock Hub on JioHotstar.
