'Understand boundaries': Lal Jose on paparazzi row at Salim Kumar’s funeral

Dubai: Filmmaker Lal Jose has called for legislation to regulate social media, saying people should not be allowed to enter any space with a mobile phone and invade others' privacy without restraint.
Speaking in Dubai, Lal Jose said the cyber attacks directed at Chandu, the son of late actor Salim Kumar, were deeply distressing.
"People should understand the situation of others. There should not be a scenario where anyone can walk into any place with a mobile phone and record whatever they want," he said.
The director stressed that everyone is entitled to personal space and privacy.
"Everyone has a personal space. Wherever actresses go, some people follow them with mobile phones. There are even people who ask questions about something as personal as a locket around their neck," he remarked.
Remembering Salim Kumar, Lal Jose said the actor was one of his closest friends.
"Our relationship went beyond cinema. Our families shared a close bond, and we stood together on many issues. His passing has left a huge void," he said.
His comments come amid a growing debate over privacy, consent and social media behaviour following the circulation of videos related to Salim Kumar's funeral.
Salim Kumar worked in the film industry for more than three decades and appeared in over 300 films. He first became popular for his comedy roles before earning praise for his performances in serious and emotional roles. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for Adaminte Makan Abu.
He also received the Keralam State Film Award for Second Best Actor for Achanurangatha Veedu and was appreciated for films such as Ayalum Njanum Thammil. He also directed 'Karutha Joothan'.
