At the 29th International Film Festival, the screening of Feminichi Fathima created an unforgettable moment at Kairali Theatre, as actress Shamla Hamza, who played the lead role of Fathima, received an overwhelming response from the audience. Despite the movie being just over an hour long, the audience eagerly waited in anticipation to learn more about the powerful character of Fathima, portrayed by Shamla.

As Shamla Hamza, carrying her infant, stepped forward to greet the audience, the theatre erupted into applause. The portrayal of Fathima, a strong and compelling character, was executed by Shamla with such grace and intensity that the applause seemed endless. She managed to bring out the strength and beauty of the character without overpowering its essence, leaving a lasting impression on the viewers.

However, just as Shamla began to speak, her infant started crying, prompting her to exit the stage. The screening, part of the International Competition category, had already generated significant buzz outside the theatre, with a long line forming hours before the screening. Within moments of the reservation opening, all the seats for Feminichi Fathima were booked, and the three-hour screening was a full house. Those who could not get tickets were left standing outside in disappointment.

The film has received positive reviews, particularly for its portrayal of the character Fathima, whose journey unfolds against the backdrop of her struggles within a traditional family. Feminichi Fathima beautifully captures the conflicts women face in conventional households, presenting them with sensitivity and depth, yet without losing its serious tone. The character of Fathima, a woman asserting her independence, has been widely praised.

Shamla Hamza, originally from Thrithala, Pattambi, Kerala, was only six months postpartum when she played the role of Fathima in the film. Earlier, she had also appeared in Aayiraththonnu Nunakal, another notable film. Directed by Fasil Muhammed, Feminichi Fathima sheds light on a woman’s declaration of independence amidst the patriarchal structure of her family. It has struck a chord with audiences for its portrayal of the inner strength and dignity of women, even in the face of overwhelming societal pressures.
