Amazon Prime Video, on Tuesday, released the trailer of the upcoming docu-series ‘Angry Young Men’ based on the extraordinary work of Hindi cinema’s legendary writer-lyricist duo  Salim-Javed aka Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. The duo took the Hindi film industry by storm with their back-to-back blockbuster hit films including ‘Sholay,’ ‘Deewar,’ ‘Zanjeer,’ and many others.

After they tasted success with films that later went on to become cult classics, the duo was labeled ‘brats’ by many. In the upcoming three-part series, industry stalwarts including Shabana Azmi and Jaya Bachchan discuss their stardom and the ‘brat’ status, as shown in the trailer.

Azmi, who has worked with the duo, and is also married to Javed, recalled being one of those who took notice of their success and said, “What do they think of themselves?”

Jaya Bachchan also echoes her words. She, who worked with them in films like ‘Sholay,’ was quoted saying, “Once they got the success, they were irreverent. They were the brats.”

Among them was also Honey Irani, Javed’s first wife, who said that the duo wasn’t humble. She can be seen in the trailer saying: “It wasn’t that they were humble. They were not at all humble.”

Interestingly, Salim’s eldest actor-son Salman Khan, who was present at the trailer launch in Mumbai, clarified how the duo was mistaken for being the brats. "This "brat" perception comes from the fact that these two people were consistently writing hits, one after another, and eventually had to turn down many producers and actors,” said Salman.

Notably, Salim-Javed wrote 24 films together, of which 22 movies were blockbuster hits. However, despite having such a successful track record, the duo decided to part ways. The trailer of ‘Angry Young Men’ suggests that it will look deeper into what led to their split, directly from the horse’s mouth.

Kannada ‘rocking star’ Yash calls Salim-Javed’s dialogues ‘philosophy’

Actor Yash, who became a pan-India sensation with the ‘K.G.F.’ franchise will also appear in the series. Speaking about the duo’s dynamic works and their evergreen dialogues, Yash said, “Why do people even today talk about those dialogues and remember them? It is because, they are not just dialogues, but it is philosophy.”

Other prominent stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, and Hrithik Roshan were also in awe of their work. “Can you name a single writer today whose name alone draws the audience?” asked Aamir while Hrithik said, “Whoever has grown up watching their films, carries a little bit of Salim-Javed in their blood.” Amitabh also recalled their explosive collaboration, as he said, “Them being together was altogether a different story.”

‘Angry Young Men’ is jointly produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby. The docu-series will be available for streaming on the OTT giant from August 20.
