‘I am an artist first... everyone seems to have forgotten that’: Rima Kallingal

Kochi: Actress Rima Kallingal has expressed her support for the newly elected women leadership in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Speaking to the media in Kochi, Rima said she views the developments in the organisation positively and noted that many things are happening for the first time in AMMA's history.

When asked about the possibility of rejoining AMMA, Rima offered a reflective response.

“I am an artist first -- everyone seems to have forgotten that. I am at that point in my life right now,” she remarked.

Her comments come in the wake of a historic shift in AMMA’s leadership. Actress Shwetha Menon was recently elected as the first woman president in the organisation’s 31-year history. Lakshmipriya has been elected vice-president, Kukku Parameswaran will serve as general secretary, and Unni Sivapal as treasurer.

The high-profile election followed months of turbulence within the organisation, sparked by the findings of the Hema Committee report, subsequent controversies, internal disagreements, and the resignation of former president Mohanlal.

Of AMMA’s 506 eligible members, only 298 cast their votes, marking a lower turnout compared to the previous election.
