Raking in over ₹650 crore, Kantara Chapter 1 storms past Baahubali; eyes Chhaava to become 2025’s top Indian grosser so far

Kantara Chapter 1 continues its extraordinary run at the worldwide box office, recently surpassing the lifetime collections of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning. Despite witnessing a noticeable drop in collections on its 12th day — earning ₹13.50 crore in India (a 64% fall from Sunday’s ₹39.75 crore) — the film's overall performance remains strong. Its domestic net total now stands at ₹451.90 crore, with a gross of ₹542 crore, while overseas earnings have crossed $11 million, largely driven by strong numbers in North America.
As per producers Hombale Films, the movie amassed ₹146 crore gross over its second weekend, pushing its worldwide total to around ₹675 crore in 12 days. Trade analysts, however, estimate the figure to be slightly lower, around ₹650 crore. Regardless, Kantara Chapter 1 has broken into the top 20 highest-grossing Indian films, overtaking both Sultan and Baahubali: The Beginning. It currently ranks as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, trailing behind Chhaava.
Directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead, the film is a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, set 1,000 years earlier. It features Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah, and has been widely praised for its rich storytelling and visuals. (With inputs from Agencies)
