‘I had to say I was on my period’: Parvathy Thiruvothu recalls uncomfortable ‘Maryan’ sea-shoot

Actor Parvathy Thiruvothu, known for her powerful performances and fearless opinions, has opened up about a difficult experience from the sets of the Tamil film Maryan, starring Dhanush. In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Parvathy recalled how she felt helpless and unsupported during a demanding sea-shoot sequence.
The incident happened while filming a romantic scene in the sea. Parvathy said she was "completely drenched in water" and had no spare clothes to change into. As the shoot continued, she became increasingly uncomfortable but realised no one on set was paying attention to her needs.
As the shoot dragged on, she reached a point where she could no longer manage the discomfort. Parvathy said she firmly told the team that she needed to return to her hotel room to change. When she was told it wasn’t possible, she openly stated, “At one point I had to say that I needed to go to my hotel room to change. When they said it was not possible I loudly said that I was on my periods and that I needed to go.”
The actress added that people on set were stunned and unsure how to respond. "They had no idea how to react to that," she added.
The actress also highlighted how there were only three women on the set that day, including herself, which made the situation even more isolating. She said the lack of a support system made her feel alone, ignored and emotionally exhausted during the shoot.
