After ‘Jana Nayagan’, Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi’ faces CBFC hurdle

Sivakarthikeyan’s much-anticipated film Parasakthi, scheduled for release on 10 January 2026, has hit a major roadblock after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested 23 cuts, primarily targeting sequences depicting anti-Hindi sentiments. The production team is currently contesting the directive, arguing that the changes could significantly alter the film’s narrative and intended message.

The CBFC, following its review in Chennai on 7 January, reportedly directed the filmmakers to remove certain scenes reflecting the anti-Hindi agitation. Filmmaker Sudha Kongara later approached the Revising Committee in Mumbai, emphasising that the suggested edits could disrupt the storyline and context. A final decision on certification is expected imminently.

Parasakthi, which marks the 25th film of Sivakarthikeyan, also stars Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, the latter making her Tamil debut. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music for the period drama set in 1960s Madras, which explores the socio-political environment of Tamil Nadu during the anti-Hindi protests. Sivakarthikeyan plays a college student involved in the agitation.

The film, reportedly made on a budget of ₹150 crore, was expected to release alongside Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. However, the certification issues have forced the makers to postpone the release, with no revised date announced as yet.
