Shruti Haasan, daughter of legendary actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika, recently shared candid insights into her parents' divorce and the life lessons she gained from their separation. Speaking on a prominent podcast, the actress reflected on her privileged yet tumultuous upbringing in a family deeply rooted in the arts and social prominence.

"I was born into a very loving and artistically enriched family, blessed with amazing parents and countless joys. However, I also witnessed the flip side of that privilege. When my parents decided to part ways, everything changed," Shruti revealed.

She spoke about how her mother’s decision to step out of the marriage helped her understand the value of independence, particularly as a woman. "When my mother left the marriage, it taught me the importance of self-reliance, especially as a daughter. I learned what financial and personal independence truly meant," she said.

"Shruti praised her parents for their maturity in handling the separation and prioritizing their children’s well-being. She also highlighted societal double standards regarding freedom, stating, 'Men’s independence is often celebrated, while women’s struggles for the same go unnoticed. I don’t think it’s necessary to declare that you are a feminist every day. Women need to silently fight their battles and applaud themselves because no one else will.'"

Shruti acknowledged the emotional pain her parents' separation caused her and her sister, Akshara Haasan, but noted that divorce has become a common occurrence. She highlighted how many families with seemingly happy exteriors also face challenges. Reflecting on her parents' marriage, Shruti said, "When they were together, they were incredibly happy and made a great couple. But if living apart brings them peace, that’s best for all of us."

Kamal Haasan and Sarika first met in 1984 on the sets of *Raj Tilak* and fell in love. They later married, but irreconcilable differences led to their decision to divorce. Despite the separation, Shruti holds onto fond memories of her parents working together, sharing that they often collaborated on projects and were a quintessential film family in many ways.

Through her reflections, Shruti emphasized the importance of individual happiness and mutual respect, even amidst life’s challenges.
