‘My Romeo’: Mira Kapoor’s emotional note to Shahid as O’Romeo hits theatres

Shahid Kapoor’s latest film O’Romeo has officially hit cinemas, marking his fourth collaboration with director Vishal Bhardwaj. The project had generated considerable anticipation ahead of its release.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had projected a double-digit opening for the film, indicating strong initial audience interest. However, early reactions have been mixed, with some viewers praising Shahid’s performance while others described the film as slow-paced.
Mira Kapoor’s tribute
Ahead of the release, Mira Rajput Kapoor shared black-and-white photographs of herself with Shahid on social media. In one image, she wore a T-shirt labelled “Juliet”, referencing the film’s title, although O’Romeo is not a direct adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic. She wrote caption:
“My ROMEO
When he asks “main hoon ki hoon nahi?”, remember, Tum Ho. Aur ho vahi. The one who is relentless, talented beyond belief, eyes that express a thousand words, and a heart that always mends. Because what holds you is the light. Destiny’s child. It’s time to shine.
Spectacular is an understatement. I am so proud of you. O’ROMEO now in Theatres!”
In her message, she praised Shahid’s dedication to his craft, writing, “It’s time to shine. Spectacular is an understatement,” expressing pride in his work. Director Vishal Bhardwaj addressed audiences before formal reviews emerged, expressing pride in the film and gratitude to his team. He thanked his heads of departments (HODs) for their contribution, stating that they gave more than was asked of them in terms of commitment and effort.
Bhardwaj also acknowledged that the film explores darker emotional themes, including aspects of hatred and violence, which he described as part of his creative exploration.
O’Romeo features an ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, Vikrant Massey and Triptii Dimri. The film marks the first on-screen pairing of Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.
Box office clash with Tu Yaa Main
The film released alongside Tu Yaa Main, starring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav. The simultaneous release has set up a box office contest between the two projects.
Early box office estimates suggested that Tu Yaa Main opened on a modest note, while O’Romeo received mixed audience responses on its first day.
Initial reviews for O’Romeo have been varied, with some critics praising Shahid Kapoor’s performance and others criticising the film’s pacing and narrative tone.
As the opening weekend progresses, box office numbers and wider audience feedback are expected to determine how both films perform commercially and critically.
