‘Only if the content is good will everybody like it’: Simran says she is a bona fide Rajini fan after watching ‘Coolie’

Rajinikanth’s Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is inching towards ₹500 crores at the global box office despite receiving mixed reviews. Apart from 'Thalaivar', the film boasts an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, Upendra Rao, and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.
The film narrates the story of Deva (played by Rajinikanth), a former coolie and union leader who now runs a boys' hostel in Chennai. Upon learning that his friend and soulmate Rajasekhar (played by Sathyaraj) has been brutally murdered, Deva takes it upon himself to avenge Rajasekhar’s death and protect his three daughters. Confronting a menacing smuggling gang, Deva walks down memory lane—only to uncover the biggest truth of his life, rekindling hope and affection along the way.
Despite its emotional core, Coolie is yet another testosterone-driven world crafted by Lokesh Kanagaraj, filled with violence and bloodshed. Notably, the film released to much fanfare, given the star-studded cast. However, soon after its release, fans were divided—some impressed by the film, others panning it for its lack of an engaging story and for largely missing the goosebumps-inducing moments found in Thalaivar’s previous blockbuster, Jailer.
Interestingly, what has caught fans’ attention now is actor Simran’s reaction after watching Coolie.
Talking to media, Simran expressed her admiration for Rajinikanth, saying she is a huge fan of "Rajini sir," which is why she watched the film. She shared that she absolutely loved it and never misses any of his movies. Regardless of others' opinions, she considers every Rajinikanth film a hit. While she believes a film’s success with audiences depends on strong content, she felt Rajinikanth gave his best performance nonetheless.
“It is a power-packed film with great action set pieces,” Simran said after watching Coolie, adding that she liked the story as well.
Meanwhile, Simran is riding high on the stupendous success of Tourist Family, directed by debutant Abishan Jeevinth, in which she stars opposite seasoned actor Sasikumar. The ‘small’ film also features Aavesham fame Mithun Jai Sankar, Master Kamalesh Jagan, Yogalakshmi, and a host of other delightful performers.
The critically acclaimed and commercially successful film is, by far, one of the biggest hits in the Indian film industry this year.
Returning to Simran’s praise for Rajinikanth—it is yet another example of camaraderie and mutual respect among stars in the highly competitive world of cinema.
