‘Nivin Pauly’s side must also be heard; Why is AMMA silent?’: Sandra Thomas on Listin row

Kochi: Film producer Sandra Thomas has once again voiced strong criticism against Film Producers Association (KFPA) treasurer Listin Stephen, accusing him of making indirect yet damaging comments about a leading actor. Without naming anyone, Listin’s earlier statement suggested that an actor was responsible for causing serious issues within the industry, leading Sandra to question why organisations have remained silent.
Sandra reiterated that Listin’s comments have put every actor under unnecessary pressure. She stressed that the matter should be addressed within the organisation. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Sandra said film bodies appear hesitant to take any action against Listin.
“Listin makes several key decisions in Malayalam cinema. This makes it difficult for film associations to act against him. Even officials in these organisations rely on Listin to secure funding for their films. So, when it comes to challenging him, only the brave might do so. I don’t see anyone with such courage at the moment,” she said.
Sandra urged the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) to break its silence. “AMMA must respond to Listin’s remarks. I do not understand why they’re staying quiet. His statement has created unease among actors. If he was referring to Nivin (actor Nivin Pauly), then his version must also be heard,” she said.
Sandra claimed she has been sidelined by the organisation, though she remains a member. “They treat me like an outsider. But I still hold membership and will certainly bring this issue forward. I pay the same subscription fee as Listin. Don’t we both deserve equal treatment?” she asked.
The controversy began when Listin Stephen, during the launch event of actor Dileep’s 150th film Prince and Family, claimed that a leading actor has set off a serious issue, which, if not addressed, could lead to even bigger problems. His failure to name the actor sparked widespread backlash.
In response, Sandra strongly condemned the remarks, saying they cast a shadow of doubt over all actors in the Malayalam film industry. She demanded not only Listin’s removal from his position but also his expulsion from the Film Producers’ Association altogether.
