Despite hurdles like court stay, 'Matangi' came to life: Navya Nair

Actress Navya Nair has realised her dream by opening her very own dance school 'Matangi' right on the upper floor of her house in Kochi. However, this dream didn’t come true without its share of drama.

In a new video, Navya has shared the story while introducing her ‘Matangi’ with her fans on her YouTube channel. 

“I was thrilled with the construction of the dance school. When word spreads about opening a new dance school, people are usually delighted,” said Navya.

But when she discussed the news, the local residents, mainly elderly people, raised concerns that the dance school might disrupt their peaceful lives. This led to a court stay halting the construction.

Navya, a devoted follower of Guruvayoorappan, turned to her faith in times of trouble. 

“I have a deep devotion to Guruvayoorappan.. even before the release of the film ‘Nandanam’. I believe ‘Balamani’ and the movie to be gifts from Guruvayoorappan. I pray to him whenever I have an issue, no matter how minor,” Navya continued.

True to her faith, the court stay was eventually lifted, allowing construction to resume after making some changes in the directions of her residence and the plot.

Today, 'Matangi' operates without causing any disturbance. 

“Due to opposition from a few residents with vested interests, I was not even allowed to install a gate at the back of the plot. Despite these hurdles, the joy of seeing 'Matangi' come to life has made all the effort worthwhile,” she said.

Interestingly, the name 'Matangi' holds a deep meaning. In Hindu mythology, Matangi is an esoteric form of the goddess Saraswati, often depicted in shades of blue and green.

Navya, who has been passionate about dance since her childhood, was recognised as Kalatilakam at the Alappuzha District School Youth Festival in 2001. She made her acting debut as a tenth grader in the film ‘Ishtam’ directed by Sibi Malayil. 

Navya went on to star in many hit films across Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil cinema. After a break, she has made a successful comeback in Malayalam films with ‘Oruthee’.
