When do ‘L2: Empuraan’ advance bookings start? Here’s what you need to know

The highly anticipated Malayalam film ‘L2: Empuraan’ is set to open its advance ticket bookings on Friday, March 21, 2025. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran confirmed that bookings will commence at 9 a.m. IST. "09:00 IST on the 21st of March 2025... the floodgates to the world of Empuraan will open! Grab your tickets fast! All India bookings opening tomorrow morning," he wrote on social media.

With just a week remaining until the film's theatrical release on March 27, anticipation is at an all-time high. The sequel to ‘Lucifer’ has already seen a remarkable response in the international market, with pre-sales crossing ₹10 crore for the opening day alone, as per Sacnilk.

Strong overseas advance sales

The film, starring Mohanlal, has set the overseas box office abuzz, particularly in the Gulf. It has already grossed an impressive US $351,000 (AED 1.29M) from pre-sales in the UAE for its premiere and first day, equivalent to over ₹3 crore, according to Track BO. Additional ticket sales from Bahrain and Oman have pushed the Gulf total to US $396,000 (₹3.4 crore). Across the UAE, ‘L2: Empuraan’ has sold approximately 23,500 tickets for 759 scheduled shows, highlighting Mohanlal’s immense popularity in the region.

In North America, the film recently surpassed the US $125,000 mark, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film in the region before release. The global advance sales are projected to touch US $1.5 million, setting the stage for a record-breaking international debut.

Grand scale and record-breaking release

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, ‘L2: Empuraan’ is said to be the most expensive Malayalam film ever made. The trailer, which was released ahead of schedule, has already gained over 4 million views. It introduces several new characters while hinting at significant transformations for returning ones.

The film is set for a pan-Indian release in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. Distribution is being handled by major players, with Hombale Films releasing it in Karnataka, AA Films taking charge in North India, and Dil Raju along with SVCC Releases overseeing Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Adding to its prestige, ‘L2: Empuraan’ will become the first-ever Malayalam film to be released in IMAX format globally. The first show will kick off at 6 a.m. IST on March 27, with international screenings aligned to respective time zones.

With its massive pre-sales, extensive distribution, and high expectations, ‘L2: Empuraan’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest Malayalam releases of the year.
