Mammootty and Adoor Gopalakrishnan reunite after 30 years as ‘Padayatra’ begins

The much-anticipated Malayalam film Padayatra began shooting in Kochi on Friday, marking the reunion of legendary actor Mammootty and acclaimed filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan after 30 years.

The film is produced by Mammootty Kampany and is reportedly adapted from the 1950 novel Randidangazhi by Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, potentially becoming the second screen adaptation following the 1958 version.

Actor Grace Antony, known for prominent roles in Malayalam cinema and her Tamil film Paranthu Po, has been cast as the lead heroine, while veteran actor Indrans is also part of the ensemble.

The script is co-written by Adoor Gopalakrishnan and K. V. Mohankumar, with Meera Sahib serving as chief assistant director. Cinematography is handled by Shehnad Jalal, who recently worked on Rahul Sadasivan’s Dies Irae, and the music is composed by Mujeeb Majeed.

Mammootty and Adoor previously collaborated on Vidheyan in 1994. In a recent interview, Adoor revealed that this would be his fourth film with Mammootty, sharing that the actor’s face came to mind while writing the script. The reunion has generated excitement among Malayalam cinema fans, eager to see this collaboration on screen.
