'Mammookka, Lalettan told me not to resign and stand firm'; Shwetha thanks superstars

Actor Shwetha Menon has thanked Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal, claiming they urged her not to resign as president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and instead remain firm in her stand.
In a statement shared on social media under the caption "Satyameva Jayate", Shwetha said it is the majority of AMMA members—not "10 or 15 people who came running in"—who should decide how the organisation functions.
"Some people tried to hijack the organisation by taking advantage of internal disputes in AMMA, but the court has prevented that attempt. My heartfelt thanks to Mammookka and Lalettan, who told me not to resign, to stand firm, and continue the fight. I also thank every AMMA member who stood firmly with me in this battle," Shweta said.
She added that "10 or 15 people who came running in" should not determine how AMMA operates. "It is the majority of AMMA members who should decide that. Those who genuinely wish to be part of the committee should contest elections, as we did, instead of entering through the back door or by creating a commotion," she said.
The development comes after a court temporarily stayed the functioning of the ad hoc committee that had taken charge of AMMA following the resignation of the executive committee led by Shwetha Menon. The interim order of the Ernakulam Munsif Court directed that the committee headed by Shwetha continue functioning. Following the order, Ramesh Pisharody resigned from the ad hoc committee.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Shwetha Menon, who argued that the ad hoc committee had no legal validity. The petition stated that when the previous committee led by Mohanlal resigned, the executive committee had continued in office, and under AMMA's bylaws, the outgoing committee is authorised to function until fresh elections are held.
