Malayalam director B Unnikrishnan to continue as FEFKA general secretary after resignation declined

Kochi: Even as Malayalm filmmaker B Unnikrishnan had tendered his resignation earlier, it was not accepted by the FEFKA General Council which insisted that he continue in his role. B Unnikrishnan, speaking after the general council meeting in Kochi, claimed that although he expressed a desire to step down as general secretary, the council decided that no changes were necessary within the organisation.
"The organisation is stable and structurally strong. I felt that the organisation no longer required my presence as it once did. The leadership has moved far forward, and I felt this was the right time to step away. To hold a leadership position for more than 18 years is an excess in itself. I have an internal decision not to continue," Unnikrishnan said.
He further explained that his decision was motivated by a desire for personal time to pursue writing, travelling and teaching. He had communicated this to Sibi Malayil, suggesting they present the matter together. However, the FEFKA General Council discussed the matter in detail, and the members expressed that they did not wish for any change. The council's view was that Unnikrishnan should remain as general secretary and Sibi Malayil should continue as President, perhaps by adjusting the workload to accommodate him without him having to vacate the office.
Unnikrishnan added, "It is not a matter of moving backwards or forwards from a decision. Fundamentally, we are all organisational workers. I expressed my desire to the organisation, but the General Council has made its decision. I will act in accordance with the decision of the General Council."
