Kochi: The mounting crisis within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has intensified after prominent actor Maala Parvathi fiercely criticised the leadership's recent directive banning members from speaking out publicly.

Describing attempts to silence the guild’s members as "futile", the actor insisted that the organisation must remain subject to public scrutiny. She called upon the industry's most revered veterans, including Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Suresh Gopi, to urgently step in and resolve the internal warfare currently fracturing the association.

"No one within AMMA should say that public auditing is unacceptable," Maala Parvathi told Mathrubhumi News. "Public accountability exists everywhere in Kerala; it is how our society progresses. Gagging orders simply will not work."

The latest dispute erupted following explosive allegations made by actor Ansiba Hassan, who recently resigned as the association's joint secretary. Ansiba accused fellow actor Tini Tom and other committee members of orchestrating a campaign of character assassination against her, which allegedly included malicious and communal rumours regarding forced religious conversions.

Addressing these specific allegations, Maala Parvathi clarified that she had personally looked into the claims involving a production controller's son. "The production controller himself confirmed to me that these stories are entirely fabricated. He and Ansiba are long-standing family friends, and his son explicitly denied that any conversion attempt took place. It remains a mystery how such malicious gossip was manufactured."

Maala Parvathi suggested that Ansiba Hassan is being actively targeted by a faction within the guild because of her willingness to challenge the status quo, particularly regarding financial oversight and administrative transparency.

The actor expressed hope that the industry's elder statesmen would take responsibility to steady the ship. "Senior figures like Mammootty and have steered this body in the past. They cannot remain bystanders; they must intervene to find a permanent solution."

The internal feud marks a turbulent period for AMMA, which has seen its newly elected female-led executive committee, headed by President Shwetha Menon, beset by public resignations, leaked audio clips, and bitter internal divisions over corporate sponsorships. Meanwhile, actor Tini Tom has denied the allegations, dismissing the claims as mere hearsay.
