'Contrary to popular belief, Mohanlal isn’t...,' reveals Kerala minister Saji Cherian

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's Minister of Culture, Fisheries, and Films, Saji Cherian, is still brimming with excitement after a rare and memorable interview with legendary actor Mohanlal. The 59-year-old minister, who is also a prominent CPI(M) leader, had the unique opportunity to interact with his idol, and he continues to share the experience with immense joy.

Mohanlal, a revered figure in the Indian film industry, is known for his reluctance to give interviews, making this occasion even more special for Cherian. The interaction took place during a cultural festival in the Minister's Chengannur constituency, located about 90 km from the state capital. Cherian shares his thrill

Cherian couldn't contain his excitement, telling, “I really enjoyed my interview with Mohanlal.” He explained that this was part of a series documenting Kerala’s cultural icons, an initiative by the state's Culture Department.

Cherian also spoke about the effort involved in getting Mohanlal to attend the event. “He was shooting in Mumbai, but he graciously agreed to fly down and attend the event. His presence elevated the cultural expo, and everyone left the event feeling delighted,” he said.

A candid conversation

The interview took place at the residence of one of Mohanlal’s friends in Chengannur, where Cherian asked the actor a range of questions. “He’s incredibly sharp, and even when faced with tricky questions, including ones related to my party, he answered intelligently and cautiously,” Cherian recalled.

Mohanlal discussed various topics, including his family, his long-time associate Antony Perumbavoor, and his successful career spanning five decades. “He clarified that, contrary to popular belief, he isn’t a shy person,” said Cherian.

Mohanlal’s success

When asked about his success as an actor, Mohanlal attributed it to several factors. According to Cherian, the actor believes his talent is a gift from God and also credits the role of luck and the unwavering support of his wife, son, and daughter.
