Controversy surrounding Jr NTR-Trivikram film? Why is NTK leader Seeman against it?

An unshot and untitled cinematic collaboration between Jr NTR and acclaimed director Trivikram Srinivas has ignited a fierce political and cultural storm. The project, speculatively titled God of War, has come under intense scrutiny, with certain groups in Tamil Nadu calling for an outright ban over its perceived historical representation of the deity Lord Murugan.
The controversy intensified following a stern intervention by Seeman, a prominent Tamil politician and leader of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK). He urged the Tamil Nadu government to prohibit the film's theatrical release if the makers continued with a narrative that he described as a blatant distortion of Tamil civilisation and heritage.
The dispute erupted after producer Naga Vamsi shared a promotional poster online. The artwork featured a weapon closely resembling the divine spear traditionally associated with Lord Murugan, overlaid with Sanskrit verses. However, it was the accompanying promotional caption that triggered outrage. The tagline described the central figure as emerging from the north, developing in the mainland, and receiving veneration across the south before attaining universal reverence.
In Tamil tradition, Murugan is revered as the primordial guardian deity of the Tamils, with his roots firmly embedded in ancient Sangam literature and the region's cultural landscape. Critics argue that attributing his origins to the northern plains amounts to historical distortion.
Conversely, a section contends that the promotional language is consistent with pan-Indian Puranic traditions, in which the deity is worshipped nationwide as Kartikeya or Skanda, the son of Shiva, who is believed to have been born in the Himalayas.
"Other races, lacking their own distinct identities, cultural elements, worship methods, or divine traditions, have stolen and appropriated as their gods the Tamil forebears' Sivan, Murugan, Kannan, Thirumal, Kotravai, and all the rest," Seeman alleged.

"From time immemorial, the most ancient primal god of the Tamils has been Lord Muruga Perumal, inseparably intertwined with Tamil culture and way of life. Him too the great Tamil race will not let slip away. Tamil is Murugan; Murugan is Tamil; the two are inseparable. Tamil God Murugan is one with our lives and our sentiments," read an NTK leader's post on X.
Seeman warned that the film's makers would face severe consequences if they continued to promote what he described as fictional narratives under the guise of artistic freedom. He asserted that Tamil identity is inseparable from the deity.
So far, the production house, director Trivikram Srinivas, and Jr NTR have remained silent, offering no official clarification about the script as the project moves toward production. (With inputs from Agencies)
