Maharashtra village renamed 'Herochi Wadi' to honour late Bollywood icon Irrfan Khan

Mumbai: A small village in Maharashtra has paid a heartfelt tribute to late Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan by renaming itself in his memory. Patryacha Wada, a village near Igatpuri in Nashik district, will now be known as 'Herochi Wadi' — meaning 'The Hamlet of the Hero' — as a mark of respect for the celebrated actor.
Irrfan Khan, who passed away in April 2020 after battling neuroendocrine tumour, shared a special bond with the village where he owned a farmhouse near Tringalwadi Fort. He had bought the property 15 years ago and spent considerable time there, earning the affection of the local community.
More than just a star, Irrfan became a "real-life hero" to the villagers through his numerous charitable activities. He donated an ambulance, computers, books, raincoats, sweaters for children, and even contributed funds to build the local school.
Beyond material help, what touched the hearts of the villagers was his humility. He would often invite them to his farmhouse, engage in conversations and treat everyone with warmth.
"We named our village Herochi Wadi because for us, Irrfan Khan was not just a film hero — he was our real hero," said the locals, remembering the actor's enduring legacy.
