Mumbai: Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has shared fascinating details about the making of the iconic Krrish mask worn by Hrithik Roshan, revealing how the design process for the Krrish mask took months to perfect for the Bollywood superhero film.

Speaking during choreographer-director Farah Khan’s vlog at his Khandala home, Rakesh Roshan revealed secrets behind the Krrish mask.

“It took about six months because we were designing and wanted to see which looks better on Hrithik... The outfit and all that took six months,” he said.

He added that the mask, which became a signature element of Krrish, was made out of wax and posed unique challenges during filming. “The mask was made out of wax. Hrithik used to wear the mask for three to four hours. The wax would melt. He had to remove it and put in a new one. So I had an air-conditioned bus with the AC on for 24 hours,” the filmmaker said.

Roshan also noted that the superhero outfit was very heavy.

Released in 2006, Krrish starred Hrithik Roshan in a dual role, alongside Priyanka Chopra, Rekha, and Naseeruddin Shah. The film, a sequel to Koi… Mil Gaya, went on to become a landmark in Indian cinema and was followed by Krrish 3 in 2013.

In April 2025, Krrish 4 was officially announced, marking Hrithik Roshan’s directorial debut as he takes over the reins of the franchise from his father. Produced by Yash Raj Films in association with Rakesh Roshan, the film is set to begin shooting early next year, with Hrithik both directing and returning as the titular superhero.
