Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Aavesham’ song sparks row after Netflix trailer leaves out Sushin Shyam’s credit

Malayalam music director Sushin Shyam has voiced his disappointment after his composition was featured in the trailer for Netflix’s upcoming series ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’ without due acknowledgment.
The promo, released earlier this week, included ‘The Last Dance’ from Fahadh Faasil’s hit film ‘Aavesham’. While the familiar beat caught the attention of viewers, the absence of Shyam’s and rapper Hanumankind’s names in the credits led the composer to publicly express his frustration.
In a comment posted under the trailer on YouTube, Shyam wrote, "Thanks Netflix for featuring my track! Would've been even cooler if my name had made it to the credits too (sic)."
The incident has triggered conversations about fair recognition for regional artists whose work gains international visibility but is not always credited. Despite the global reach of Netflix, the omission highlighted concerns over acknowledgment when music crosses linguistic and cultural boundaries.
Shyam, one of Malayalam cinema’s most in-demand composers, continues to juggle multiple projects. He is currently working on ‘Balan’, his second collaboration with director Chidambaram and third with filmmaker Jithu Madhavan. Produced by KVN Productions, the film is part of their growing investments in regional cinema for 2025.
His upcoming line-up also includes ‘KD’, Yash’s ‘Toxic’, Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’, and a Hindi thriller directed by Priyadarshan. Shyam is additionally composing for ‘Torpedo’, a Tharun Moorthy directorial featuring Fahadh Faasil, Naslen, Arjun Das, and Ganapathi. He has also confirmed his role as composer in Tamil superstar Suriya’s forthcoming project.
Netflix has not yet issued a response to Shyam’s remarks.
