The controversy surrounding the Malayalam film 'Empuraan' has taken a fresh turn, with Dr Soumya Sarin, a paediatrician and social media influencer, stepping into the debate. According to her, the movie would have been a flop if it weren’t for all the buzz and uproar surrounding it.

Taking to Facebook, she credited director Prithviraj Sukumaran for masterminding the entire situation, saying she appreciate his clever marketing strategy.

In her post, she wrote, “If there weren’t any of these uproars, 'Empuraan' would have been a flop movie.”

She went on to reference a dialogue from the movie where the character Baiju tells Sumesh that a political leader’s third greatest quality should be their ability to create excitement. She suggested that the same applies to films like 'Empuraan'.

She even compared it to 'Lucifer', the first instalment of the trilogy, which was a massive hit.

"What swag Lalettan had in it! Every dialogue, and even more so, those eyes, were enough. When you look at it from that perspective, this is one of a kind."

A masterstroke by Prithviraj?

Soumya didn’t stop at praising 'Lucifer'; she also lauded Prithviraj’s strategic brilliance in ensuring 'Empuraan' stays in the limelight.

"My dear Prithviraj, your head is something that needs to be preserved—such marketing intelligence! Anyway, our money has safely fallen into their boxes. Now you people can fight against each other as much as you want... Who cares!"

Her post quickly gained traction on social media, with fans and critics debating whether the film’s controversies were organic or a well-orchestrated PR stunt.

Controversy

For those out of the loop, 'Empuraan'—the second part of the 'Lucifer' trilogy—is under fire for its critique of right-wing politics and an alleged indirect reference to the Gujarat riots. While some call it bold storytelling, others see it as unnecessary provocation.
