Bengaluru: In a tragic discovery that has shocked the Kannada film industry, celebrated director Guruprasad (52) was found hanging in his Bengaluru flat on Sunday. Police suspect the acclaimed filmmaker died by suicide days ago, in what appears to be a case of financial stress or other unresolved personal struggles.

The incident took place in a residential complex under the Madanayakanahalli police limits on the outskirts of the city. The Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural, CK Baba, said Guruprasad’s neighbours last saw him entering the flat nearly a week ago, after which he had seemingly withdrawn, not stepping outside again.

Police were alerted after a foul odour began emanating from the flat. Officers discovered the filmmaker’s body in a decomposed state, hanging from a ceiling fan. “Guruprasad was reportedly distressed, possibly over financial or film-related issues,” SP Baba revealed to reporters. “We’ve registered a case and will thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Known for his bold and unconventional work, including acclaimed films like ‘Mata’ and ‘Yeddelu Manjunatha’, Guruprasad’s sudden demise has left colleagues and fans in disbelief.

His body has been sent for post-mortem as the police seek to uncover further details behind this heartbreaking tragedy.
