What if ‘Dhurandhar’ was a Mollywood film? This fan-made post is going viral

A fan-made AI video is gaining attention on Instagram for reimagining ‘Dhurandhar’ with a Mollywood twist, replacing the original cast with actors from the Malayalam film industry.
In an Instagram post shared on March 31, AI artist Akhil Vinayak, who runs the page KanavuKadha, presented a reworked version of the film. The concept imagines the intensity of Dhurandhar through a Mollywood lens, with actors from the Malayalam industry stepping into key roles.
Fahadh Faasil brings edge to Rahman Dakait
At the centre of this reimagining is Fahadh Faasil as Rahman Dakait, a role originally portrayed by Akshaye Khanna. Known for his ability to play complex and often unsettling characters, Fahadh’s version carries a quiet menace.
Unni Mukundan steps into Ranveer Singh’s role
Another striking swap features Unni Mukundan as Hamza Ali Mazari, a character played in the original by Ranveer Singh. The AI rendering highlights Unni’s rugged screen presence, particularly in scenes depicting gang conflict and a bombing in Lyari.
A full Mollywood ensemble takes shape
Nazriya Nazim appears as Yalina, a role originally played by Sara Arjun, capturing the character’s innocence. Dulquer Salmaan takes on the part of Uzair Baloch, previously portrayed by Danish Pandor.
The imposing SP Aslam, played by Sanjay Dutt in the original, is reimagined with Joju George. Soubin Shahir appears as Mohammad Aalam, while Prithviraj Sukumaran takes on Major Iqbal, a role originally played by Arjun Rampal.
Rounding out the cast, Johny Antony is imagined as Jameel Jamali, a character earlier portrayed by Rakesh Bedi.
Dhurandhar’s narrative weaves together covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of major geopolitical and terror incidents, including the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
The sequel explores the backstory of Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, offering insight into what drives his mission.
